The making of My Big Bad Friend

During the summer, me and some colleagues decided to sign up to a competition, called Tranzfuser. Tranzfuser is a government funded scheme for recent graduates to make more UK based games.

For this competition, we had ten weeks to make a game before presenting it at EGX 2018.  We wanted to make a Virtual Reality game, where the core game mechanic was about being blind.

My role in the team was to work as the main 2D and 3D artist. I focused on making the design for the little girl, as well as the the playable character's arms.

Once all the concepts were finished, I became the main 3D artist and focused on making the majority of props in Zbrush.

I also ended up hand painting textures for the props in Substance painter and making alpha maps for the rocks.

To add some extra charm for presenting at EGX, I decided to make some promotional artwork and try designing things such as posters and stickers for our booth.  We only used the sticker designs in the end.

Taking our game to EGX was honestly the best part of the project. We were able to get good feedback from people as they played our game, telling us how the game made them feel.  Majority of people gave positive reviews.

The best part was when people enjoyed our game, we even had some people say that our game was the best indie game they had played at the event.

Whilst others really loved the art direction and atmosphere. Our game attracted people of all ages, from kids to excited parents and young teenagers.

I've never showcased something I've made before at an event, I learnt so much and met some really great people! overall it helped me improve my skills as an artist.
